Get to know Dr. WinklerPrins and read through our recent Q/A where he shares about his role at Table Health and some areas of his personal and professional life.
Q. What is your area of medical expertise?
A. Comprehensive primary health care to people of all ages (check ups-prevention-acute illness-chronic illness-mental health-gynecology-pediatrics-procedures).
Q. What is your role at Table Health?
A. I am a direct primary care physician at our Petoskey location.
Q. What are some of the symptoms you commonly treat?
A. If you have a symptom or problem that you think may need medical attention, start with me!
Q. What does a typical visit look like with you?
A. My in-person visits will typically range between 30 to 60 minutes in length. Video visits, emergency after hours care and direct access are offered as well.
Q. How do you treat and care for your patients?
A. I believe I listen well and will work hard to get to know and understand your needs, quirks, and preferences. People are complicated and often wonderfully messy. I like it that way.
Q. What makes your approach to health different?
A. The Direct Primary Care model and approach offers opportunities for patients and doctors to work more closely together. It offers 21st century convenience and access with old school family doctor values. Removing insurance billing from our relationship and instead billing low monthly subscription fees we highlight access, time, accountability and cost transparency. No copays!
Q. What health trends excite you the most?
A. I am excited by many goings on in medicine. Genetics and epigentics offer amazing opportunities for understanding ourselves. Oncology has been transformed by insights that continue to grow from that work. I am amazed by the ideas that grow from deeper understanding of the human microbiome. I am also excited to see more holistic approaches to many of the chronic problems we suffer from for which western medicine simply does not have good answers.
Q. Who do you follow in the medical, health/wellness community? Why?
A. I am thrilled by the deep thinkers, the doers, and the small tinkerers looking to make a difference and helping us understand an often crazy and difficult world.
Q. How do you spend your free time?
A. I am eclectic. I love spending time outdoors and enjoy anything on two wheels. I have traveled extensively by bicycle and this is my greatest pursuit outside of medicine. I love to read (fiction/young adult literature my favorites), listen to music, dance, watch movies, my motorcycle (KLR650) and to bake. While I would hesitate to call myself artistic I have strong artistic sensibilities.
Q. Who inspires you?
A. My two sons, my wife, my parents, and Don Berwick. I am inspired by artists and nutty people doing beautiful things for no glory.
Q. What book did you last read?
A. I’ll give you three: The Three Marriages by David Whyte; The End of Alzheimer’s by Dale Bredesen; You Know, Sex by Cory Silverberg and Fiona Smyth.
Q. What do you love about the Petoskey area?
A. The people, the bay, the air, places to discover and get lost.
Q. Why did you choose this profession?
A. To serve. This is my driving interest.
