Get to know Dr. Amy Bodnarchuk and read through our recent Q/A where she shares about her role at Table Health and some areas of her personal and professional life.
Q. What is your area of medical expertise?
A. I specialize in preventative care and chronic disease management. This includes women’s health, mental health and geriatric health.
Q. What is your role at Table Health?
A. I am a primary care physician.
Q. What are some of the symptoms you commonly treat?
A. I treat both chronic and acute medical conditions.
Heart disease, kidney disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, weight loss, COPD/asthma, arthritis and any illness, disease or infection. Basically, anything you think you may want to see a doctor for, start with me!
Q. What does a typical visit look like with you?
A. In-office visits range from 30 to 60 minutes. Video/telephone visits are also an option, including same or next day availability.
Q. How do you treat and care for your patients?
A. I believe in treating the whole person and empowering patients to take charge of their health through informed decision-making. By fostering a collaborative and empathetic environment, I strive to build enduring partnerships with my patients, guiding them on their unique wellness journey.
Q. What makes your approach to health different?
A. I believe the direct primary care model allows access and time. Longer appointments mean getting to know you, your life and your family so we can get to the root cause(s) and create a plan together that works for you.
I believe in flexibility and focus on lifestyle and health, not labels, rules or scales.
Q. What health trends excite you the most?
A. I think the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) is very exciting and could dramatically enhance the way we practice medicine, particularly as it relates to precision medicine.
Q. Who do you follow in the medical, health/wellness community? Why?
A. I love The Curbsiders podcast since they review a broad range of topics related to my specialty and great to listen to while I drive.
Q. How do you spend your free time?
A. Right now, time is spent with my three young boys! We love all things outdoors and travel the world. Movement, in all its forms whether a leisurely walk or intense strength training session, is integral to my lifestyle. My newest hobby is pickleball.
Q. Who inspires you?
A. My husband, my kids and my parents.
Q. What book did you last read?
A. I almost always have 3 books on the go – one paperback, one on kindle and one on audio. Right now they are: Outlive by Peter Attia, The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
Q. What do you love about the Petoskey area?
A. The friendly people and close community, the outdoor recreation and the water.
Q. Why did you choose this profession?
A. Primary Care is the first, and arguably, the most important interaction between patients and the medical system. I want the opportunity to work with patients to prevent serious or chronic conditions. And if they exist, to alleviate suffering as much as possible and then advocate for them to get the care they need.
